Tony Wilson

Track Star Tony Wilson Dies
March 10, 1973

Knoxville, Tennessee (UPI): Tony Wilson, the Southeastern Conference and University of Tennessee record-holder in the high jump, died Monday, several hours after checking into University Hospital complaining of illness. 

​
Wilson, 21, of Columbus, Ohio died at 1:30 pm. He is the younger brother of singer Nancy Wilson. He was a senior at UT.
Athletic Director Bob Woodruff said “We are all shocked at the tragic death of one of our student athletes. Tony Wilson was well liked by his track teammates and the university’s athletic staff.”

Wilson, who set the SEC and Tennessee high jump record with a leap of 7 feet 1 ½ inches.

A memorial service is scheduled Tuesday at Stokley Athletic Center.
